Pragmatic skills include turn-taking in conversation, maintaining appropriate eye contact, understanding and using nonverbal cues, using language for different purposes, and understanding the social norms and expectations of communication.

Speech therapists help individuals improve their receptive and expressive language skills through targeted interventions and therapy techniques. Expressive language focuses on the ability to express oneself through communication, while receptive language focuses on the ability to understand and comprehend language input from others. Both expressive and receptive language skills are crucial for successful communication and language development. Individuals may exhibit strengths or weaknesses in one or both of these language domains, and speech-language therapists often work to assess and address any challenges in expressive and receptive language abilities.
